Every Japanese Spring and Summer, we send two teachers to Japan to take part on the Voluntary Teach in Japan programme. The Voluntary Teach in Japan programme is an excellence opportunity for NZ teachers to experience teaching English in a Japanese school environment and living in a Japanese home with a Japanese family. The objective of this programme is to provide participants a better understanding of the cultural differences between NZ and Japan.

This March, two of our very good Tutor Coordinators, Jacqueline McGowan and Liz Harper, went and taught at schools in Hyogo and Fukuoka. Jacqueline felt that the programme was very well organised and a great opportunity. “I got to visit an interesting country with delicious food and a beautiful culture. I learn so much from the experience.” Liz felt that it was a wonderful experience and a time for personal growth. She enjoyed teaching with other English teachers from Canada and found it interesting and helpful to share ideas and teaching methods. “Having gained a greater understanding of Japanese culture will assist the students I will be working with in the future.”
